NASHUA – Leaders of the next generation gathered Nov. 19 at the St. Patrick Church gym for the third annual Nashua Police Athletic League Victory Academy.
Staff members from the Nashua-based company velocityHUB joined forces with Nashua PAL for a day of leadership lessons and thought exercises.
Nashua PAL sponsors sports, activities and enrichment programs with the mission of creating a positive relationship between the children of Nashua and the members of the city police force.
Victory Academy is designed to inspire young students to embrace leadership, and highlights nine leadership traits of business, athletic and community leaders.
The event mirrors programs provided by velocityHUB, a business consulting and professional training services company.
Staff members from velocityHUB have brought its programs to many academic institutions across New England, including Dartmouth College, Tufts University and Amherst College.
“We’re trying to empower kids to push their boundaries,” said Evan Manley, associate in revenue enablement at velocityHUB, who was one of the event’s volunteers. “These are things they may not have been taught in school.”
During one of the activities, students covered their eyes with a bandana and stacked a pyramid of cups with the help of their friends.
Manley said seeing how engaged and excited the students were during the event made the experience enjoyable for him. “They really worked together as a team.”
Shaun Nelson, executive director of Nashua PAL, agreed that the event inspired the children. “It is hard to match the energy that comes along with hundreds of youths feeling empowered to make positive change,” he said.
